HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Emergency Couple Episodes 14-15 (3/4)

too many feelsLast week Oh Chang Min made my heart skip more beats than a scratched CD and this week he broke it into a thousand pieces! I'm really not sure what next week will hold but I can tell you this, Emergency Couple has found a way to tug at every single one of my heartstrings and I'm on the verge of a total feels meltdown!
stare downWe left off last week, with Chang Min burning with jealously as he watched Dr. Gook drop Jin Hee off at home so, of course, that's right where we picked up this week. I would have felt a little bit bad for Chang Min, having to watch Dr. Gook make those first innocent moves on Jin Hee, if Chang Min hadn't barged in on and ruined what has got to be the cutest scene in this entire drama so far... Dr. Gook dragging Jin Hee out to eat, just because he thought his bad day would improve if he spent a little time with her. Seriously, that entire scene had me squealing like a crazed fangirl as I watched Dr. Gook, in all of his adorable awkwardness, try to spend a little quality time with Jin Hee and I wanted nothing more than to slap Chang Min for waltzing in and ruining everything! Grr!
i can't stand youThe only upside to Chang Min's interruption was that it forced Dr. Gook to straight-up admit his feelings for Jin Hee which is something I don't think he would have ever had the courage to do otherwise. The down-side to this whole debacle, at least from Chang Min's perspective, was that it forced Jin Hee to say some very harsh, albeit honest, things to him that I'm sure he immediately wished he'd never heard. I mean who wants to hear that the person you love honestly can't stand to be around you? I'm pretty sure no one wants to hear such harsh words, let alone a man desperately trying to win back his ex-wife. I wanted to feel sorry for Chang Min at that moment but honestly, I think it was good for him to hear the painful truth. Only after understanding where Jin Hee is coming from can Chang Min hope to move forward. If he's only focused on himself and his feelings, he's never going to understand why Jin Hee can't move forward with him. At  least now he's got an idea of where he stands with her and how impossible it seems, at least at that moment, for them to be together.
going their own wayFrom that moment on, Chang Min went from causing my heart endless flutters to causing it endless pain. Every time he appeared on-screen after that, he was so downcast and dejected and pathetic, I just wanted to cry! I think it's just because the reality of his situation and the hopelessness he's feeling at the moment is so plainly written across his face, it hurts me to look at him. I know that really he's being a bit melodramatic but he's trying, in his own way, to give Jin Hee the space she needs and I just want to hug him for that.
only after you've healedBut Chang Min isn't the only guy needing a hug this week. Turns out Dr. Gook has quite a painful history he's been hiding and now that we know the truth, how can we not love him? Abandoned and rejected for most of his life, with no one around to love or support him, Dr. Gook has spent far too many years alone and suddenly I find myself hoping he'll end up with Jin Hee. Well at least until he gets all self-righteous about his stance on divorce. Yes, I understand where he's coming from. It was his parents' divorce that ruined his life. I get that. But the way he went all cold towards Jin Hee, treating her like just another intern the moment he learned she was a divorcee... Not cool Dr. Gook. Not cool.
i'm divorced tooAt least Jin Hee was brave enough to finally admit she'd been married before. I'm sure it took a lot of guts to admit something as scandalous as being a divorcee but I think things at work will be better for her in the long run. It's been too hard for her and Chang Min to live like they're strangers. Now that everyone knows the truth, they can all get their two minutes of gossip in and then move on with their lives which is a good thing, especially if you're Yong Kyu and Ah Reum.
take my hankieAs much as I don't like Ah Reum, she really isn't the worst person in the world. It seems like she's finally come to accept the fact that Chang Min really does like Jin Hee and there's nothing she can do to change his mind. (About time!) But what really softened my opinion of Ah Reum was the way she treated Yong Kyu this week, as if she actually cared about him, at least as a friend. I was surprised to see that Ah Reum really could be a decent person if she wanted to be and I was glad to see her trying to help Yong Kyu deal with rather traumatic ordeal.
ptsdPoor Yong Kyu! As if living the life of an unrequited lover wasn't enough, he had to go and make a nearly fatal mistake in the treatment of a patient and ruin all of the confidence he once had in himself. As depressing as the men in this week's episodes were, I think Yong Kyu takes the cake for being the most pathetic. I felt so bad for him, seeing him go pale and break out into a cold sweat at the very thought of messing up again, I just wanted to give him a hug and tell him to press on because, being human, we're all bound to make mistakes from time to time. (See, there are a lot of guys who needed hugs this week!)
should we just watch him dieBleak though this week may have been, it wasn't until the end of Episode 15 that I actually felt like my heart was breaking. Watching Jin Hee and Chang Min try to save his father... Oh my word! The tears could not be stopped. The previews for next week make it look like he doesn't die at the exact moment they ended things this week but that doesn't mean he won't die soon! Ugh! The very idea makes me want to cry! I wanted Chang Min's dad to be the one to bring Jin Hee and Chang Min together but not because he dies! The very idea breaks my heart...
wake up fatherSo what did you think of this week's episodes? Did our dueling doctors make your heart flutter or break? What about Yong Kyu? Do you think he'll be able to snap out of this post-traumatic funk? Do you think Ah Reum will be instrumental in bringing him back to normal or will he find his way on his own? What do you think of Ah Reum? Do you think she's really going to give up on Chang Min, now that she knows he's never going to come to her, or will she hang on until the end? And how about Chang Min's dad? Is this really the end of him? I'd love to know what you think so be sure to leave me a comment below!

HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Emergency Couple Episodes 12-13 (1/4)

smoochyTwo men, one woman and enough heart flutters to make me feel like I've just downed a gallon of espresso... That pretty much sums up this week's episodes of Emergency Couple.
let me feed you little burritoSo last week we left Jin Hee in Chang Min's arms as he pleaded with her to stay with him so she could recover from her injury in relative peace. This week picked up right where we all hoped it would, with Jin Hee giving in to Chang Min's request which conveniently gave them some much-needed bonding (or should I say repairing???) time alone together. While I found it extremely awkward to see Jin Hee rolled up into a blanket burrito, being treated more like an infant than an injured adult, I thought the thought and sentiment behind Chang Min's overzealous actions were admirable. His efforts to save Jin Hee from a lethal infection at the hospital were also admirable but what really got me (aside from his honesty in confessing his intentions to start over) was the way he stood up to him mother when it came to Jin Hee. I have a feeling, if Chang Min had had half the backbone he showed us this week, six years ago, Jin Hee wouldn't have suffered nearly as much at the hands of her evil mother-in-law.
she was hurt by youSpeaking of mother-in-laws... Why is it, every stinking evil mother-in-law in Dramaland is so ridiculously selfish and controlling? Do these women have nothing better to do than ruin their children's lives? Seriously woman? Why can't you just let you son live his life the way he wants? He's a frickin' adult yo! LEAVE HIM ALONE! (And now that I've finished my rant, I'll move on...)
it's rainingSo is it just me or is Dr. Gook becoming more adorable with every episode? Oh my giddy aunt! My poor heart can't stand the flutters this man is inducing! Not only is Dr. Gook's crush on Jin Hee absolutely adorable but the way he's choosing to express his feelings, taking Dr. Shim's advice and taking those first baby steps... A text, a smile, etc... He's just too adorable! What's even better is the way Dr. Gook is handling Chang Min's obvious affections for Jin Hee. Instead of getting all riled up and becoming petty, Dr. Gook is treating Chang Min with an even greater level of respect (granted Chang Min is taking steps to actually earn that respect) and calmly humoring him when Chang Min steps up and flat-out tells Dr. Gook to back off. It's totally obvious Dr. Gook has no intention to let Jin Hee go without a fight but the way he's chosen to fight just proves how cool Dr. Gook really is, he's so calm about everything, you can't help but love him.
I'm a fool aren't IUnfortunately Jin Hee isn't the only one interested in Dr. Gook. Poor Dr. Shim is obviously still not over her feelings for him but she's putting into practice everything she's been preaching to Chan Min, letting the person she loves follow his heart, wherever that takes him. She's so cool in the way she handles her feelings for Dr. Gook but there are times I wonder if it wouldn't be better for her to be a little more demonstrative with those feelings. Would it really hurt to let Dr. Gook know that she still loves him? I suppose at this point, it would do more harm than good but I can't help but wonder, if she's let on just a little bit earlier, that she held onto the hope that she and Dr. Gook would get back together, maybe she wouldn't be suffering the heartache she is now. I suppose expecting open and honest communication between Dramaland characters is asking a lot but hey, a girl can hope, right?
almost a smileSo what do you think of this week's episodes? Did you experience the same overwhelming amount of heart flutters that I did or am I just crazy? Who are you cheering for the most at this point? Dr. Gook or Chang Min? Who do you think Jin Hee will ultimately choose? I'd love to hear your thoughts to be sure to share them in the comments below!

HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Emergency Couple Episodes 10-11 (2/4)

This week, I threw all logic and sound reasoning out the window as I fell head-over-heels for Chang Min and all of ridiculously adorable feelings for Jin Hee. Chang Min, FIGHTING!

HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Emergency Couple Episodes 10-11 (1/4)

Flashbacks! Memories! Jealousy! Rejection! Welcome to a brand new week of Emergency Couple, episodes 10-11, with Karen. The drama is progressing along well as our main characters continue to take major steps towards love. This week's episodes are probably my favorite episodes so far because it is so romantically exciting. Where will love take everyone on Emergency Couple?

The big exciting moments of the week start with Oh Chang Min (Choi Jin Hyuk) as he pursues his former love, Oh Jin Hee (Song Ji Hyo). This week, the viewers get to see three kisses, spoon feeding, and a back hug from the couple. Dang! What's more, Chang Min and Jin Hee visit each other's home.

Continuing from our Hallyu Zombie chat from last week, Chang Min took my advice and tried to take Jin Hee away from the hospital for some alone time. While his efforts were a bit forced on Jin Hee, the night still ended up badly when Jin Hee fractured her collarbone from her seat belt and her purse chain after Chang Min suddenly hit the brakes in his car. Although they went back to the emergency room, Chang Min once again took my advice last week and decided that he has to start over with Jin Hee before planting down a kiss on her unconscious self.

I definitely sensed several zaps of manly tension between Oh Chang Min and his love rival, Dr. Gook Chun Soo (Lee Pil Mo). I'm surprised at how directly Chang Min asked Dr. Gook if he liked Jin Hee and how directly Dr. Gook answered him. Still, Chang Min was super petty when he spilled Dr. Gook's drink on Dr. Gook's jacket that was a gift from Jin Hee. Even worse, Chang Min ended up stealing the jacket afterwards. I can't back Chang Min too much when he resorts to such petty tactics.

Amazingly, it seems as though Jin Hee likes Dr. Gook and she also admitted it to Chang Min. I saw the gleam in her eyes when Jin Hee looked at Dr. Gook after her collarbone fracture.

Dr. Gook, however, seems to be hovering between Jin Hee and ex-girlfriend, Dr. Shim Ji Hye (Choi Yeo Jin). I believe Dr. Gook is leaning more towards Dr. Shim though. Did Dr. Gook wear the jacket Jin Hee gave him because Dr. Shim mentioned that he looked good in it? Dr. Gook practically ran out of the bar to look for Dr. Shim after Dr. Shim's U.S. phone call took longer than expected. Furthermore, Dr. Gook still kept his past birthday pictures with Dr. Shim for six years. Once he knew Dr. Shim's secret, he became super curious about Dr. Shim's past and whether she still kept contact with the father of her child.

Speaking of Dr. Shim, she took a long time to confess what I thought since last week: she has a daughter and she is a single mother. I knew Dr. Gook wasn't the father of the child and there's no reason why Dr. Shim should hide the fact if Dr. Gook was indeed the father. By the way, the child actors look amazing in this drama. Dr. Shim's daughter, Ji Min, is really cute and pretty.

Story line-wise, I had a problem believing that Jin Hee would find Chang Min's bag of meningitis notes and medicine in the garbage can one day after he threw them away. I would have thought that the hospital would empty their garbage cans at least once a day, if not every few hours. Also, what are the chances that Chang Min's bag would still be on the top of the garbage pile a day later?

Intern Han Ah Reum (Clara) and Dr. Shim have something in common. Unlike Chang Min, they don't seem to be that jealous toward their loves. Ah Reum saw the kiss mark on Chang Min's coat and continued to be playful with Chang Min. Dr. Shim didn't bat an eye when she saw Dr. Gook try on the jacket Jin Hee gave him. Dr. Shim even said that she is honored to be Dr. Gook's one and only girlfriend and she is happy enough to be by his side. Are these women really mature or do they want to play it cool?

Shockingly, Han Ah Reum is scary when she's mad. She starts spitting out American English with an accent at amazing speeds. I'm not even sure if I can speak English that fast when I'm upset.

While Oh Jin Ae (Jun Soo Jin) believes that, for her, love is not an accident and therefore really pure, I hate the way Han Ah Reum handles her love relationships, especially with unwanted ones. Poor intern Im Young Kyu (Yoon Jong Hoon) had to tear through Ah Reum's brutal honesty as she tells him that mistakes happen and that she still wanted to be friends with him. Anyone can tell, with the huge amount of effort Young Kyu put in, that his confession is clearly not a mistake. I think Young Kyu needs a hug right now. He really fell for the wrong woman.

What do you all think so far? We're halfway through the drama and I'm wondering if there are more major obstacles waiting for us in the second half of the drama. Visit our blogs soon as Zombie Mamma and Tanya have their turn at energetically reviewing this week's drama.

HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Emergency Couple Episodes 8-9 (4/4)

Baby Gook, secrets, and reconciliation are on Zombie Mamma, Tanya, and Powerz' minds for this week's chat of Emergency Couple.

Tanya: Okay, so I know I’m skipping ahead a LOT, but I don’t feel that Jin Ae is as awful as we all first thought. Definitely not a model citizen, needs improvement, but not the family-abandoning woman they made her out to be for a few episodes.

Zombie: I’m still not the biggest fan of Jin Ae but at least now we know that she genuinely cares for her husband and baby, if not really her mom and sister. That’s a plus in its own right but it only scores her a few measly points in my book.

Karen: Jin Ae definitely has room for improvement in my book. She may be a caring mother and wife, but she still needs to work out her issues with her immediate family.

Tanya: She apparently has a high enough opinion of her mom and sister that she was willing to send her husband and child to them because she knew they would care for them. I’m not a fan of the lying but at least she knows they will help.

Zombie: It took Jo Yang Ja long enough to warm up Baby Gook. I can understand the hesitancy in accepting Kim Gwang Soo, seeing as how he’s a complete stranger and all but to not have any compassion or feeling for Baby Gook… I just can’t fathom that! He’s so stinking adorable, how could you not love him? He’s a baby and he’s cute, that should make everyone love him, regardless of your relation to him.

Karen: I don’t even know baby Gook and I love him to death! Absolutely! He can come live with me for a while too! I even cried for him this week.

Tanya: Was anyone else disturbed by how real that baby’s responses were? Like they were actually sticking him?! It really upset me actually. There was just something way too real about it. I’m all for authenticity, but if they were really poking that kid I have some producers I need to punch in the face.

Karen: Yes, that scream was so real! I think they used the same sound file though because baby Gook’s screams seem to be identical. Anyway, I wonder what they did to make that scream happen.

Zombie: Maybe Baby Gook is just a natural-born actor… Moving on (because let’s face it, the very idea of that poor baby being poked for the sake of authenticity is just sickening)... Let’s talk about the developing relationship between Jin Hee and Dr. Gook. Are they not totally adorable?

Tanya: Yes and no. They are, but at the same time I already feel like it will never go anywhere so I’m not really invested in it. It’s just there to cause more drama… Hah!

Karen: I have this feeling that Dr. Gook may have started liking Jin Hee because of that sly smile in the elevator. I kept asking myself what that smile was all about.

Zombie: Whatever it’s about, I like seeing it. Dr. Gook looks so much better when he smiles! And yes, there is no way any sort of relationship between the two will ever pan out but I enjoy watching them together, in those rare moments when they’re comfortable enough together to put their guard down and simply enjoy each other’s company.

Karen: Do you all think Jin Hee took the jacket back from Dr. Gook or do you think he ended up keeping it?

Tanya: You know, I’m not sure. Dr. Gook did tell Jin Hee that it was Chang Min, but there was never any visual on the jacket again. It’s probably still sitting in his office.

Zombie: I think that jacket is meant to stir up Chang Min and Dr. Shim’s feelings of jealousy more than anything else. My guess is, Dr. Gook won’t ever actually wear that jacket, unless he decided to put it on, just to rile up Chang Min a little.

Tanya: Speaking of Dr. Shim, the phone call from America. Does anyone suspect a secret child happening here? Dr. Gook’s maybe?

Zombie: Oh definitely! I have a theory on this actually, that I wrote about earlier this week, so I won’t go there again but I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more going on with that secret phone call than anyone can possibly imagine.

Karen: Shim Ji Hye and Ji Min? Sounds too close to say that they aren’t related. I really don’t think the child is Dr. Gook’s though, because I don’t see Dr. Shim as the kind of person who would run away from a relationship. She was always so strong and independent.

Zombie: I don’t really see her running away from a relationship but if, perhaps, a relationship was shattered beyond repair… I could see her escaping the fall-out as a sort of self-preservation. Can I really see Dr.s Gook and Shim in such a toxic relationship when they get along so well now? No, but the way this drama has gone, it wouldn’t surprise me if that popped up as part of their mysterious past.

Tanya: I don’t think she would have run away, but more like a she left after the situation and maybe found out later? If they were on iffy terms, I could see hiding it from him.

Karen: Something doesn’t match up for me. Dr. Shim tries to pursue Dr. Gook openly, yet she also holds herself back to give him space so that it wouldn’t be so obvious. I don’t see them having prior ill feelings for one another.

Zombie: That’s part of what has me so confused about them. I can’t decide whether they were ever actually in a relationship or if they have just harbored feelings for each other for all these years without ever acting upon them… I really don’t know.

Tanya: That’s true. I never thought about that, but it’s still suspicious.

Zombie: While we’re on the subject of mysteries, here’s a whopper for you… What in the world is Chang Min going to do to make Jin Hee fall madly in love with him again? I mean, seriously! Up to this point, Jin Hee has been so adamantly against Chang Min in every way possible, I cannot see her falling in love with him all over again. I just can’t! I don’t understand how it’s even possible! Please, does anyone have any idea how this miraculous change is going to come about???

Karen: Chang Min needs a serious miracle to happen. He has all these obstacles present before he can even start to pursue Jin Hee: Chang Min’s mother, Han Ah Reum, and his job security at the hospital. Even after all that, he hasn’t openly shown Jin Hee that he cares for her at all. He continues to argue with her in front of others. I think he needs to start over again and pretend that they never met before. Start fresh.

Tanya: I… don’t even know. There shouldn’t be any way yet because he hasn’t proven himself to anyone (including us) but DramaLand always provides a path for impossible. That’s going to be what happens here. There isn’t a magical switch in people to make them forget the past. I just don’t see it.

Zombie: I suppose this is part of the reason we keep coming back, week after week… We’re hoping that eventually, all of this crazy madness will finally start to make sense. I mean, at some point, it has to… Right?

Karen: As long as Chang Min and Jin Hee are working together, there will be plenty of chances for them to reconcile.

Zombie: I’m just going to keep telling myself that somewhere, way deep down inside, Chang Min and Jin Hee are still madly in love with each other and all of this time spent together, through all of the ups and downs of life as an ER intern, will be exactly what’s needed to bring them back together in the end.

So now that we’ve shared our thoughts on this week’s happenings, we’d love to hear yours so be sure to leave them in the comments below! Or you can feed Tanya’s addiction to twitter and tweet at us by starting a conversation...

HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Emergency Couple Episodes 8-9 (3/4)

There was a lot of emotions on Emergency Couple in Episodes 8-9. Jealousy and love are flying abound!

After Jin Hee and Dr. Gook save Emma, they go on an informal date. Chang Min sees them as they return to the hospital and is instantly upset the Jin Hee is smiling at Dr. Gook and enjoying spending time with him. They openly showed affection to each other, but Chang Min starts questioning Dr. Gook because of it and that probably isn't the best idea. Dr. Gook is his supervisor after all.

HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Emergency Couple Episode 8-9 (2/4)

Emotions run high on this week's episodes of Emergency Couple. I wonder if this week's story line is the turning point for the drama where everything begins to get better. Beware, Emergency Couple viewers, as more secrets from our main characters are revealed.

Episode nine is the first episode of Emergency Couple where I cried. Honestly, I expect to cry when watching a medical drama, but so far, there wasn't a patient in the drama that made me feel overly emotional. From my past two reviews, I was really fond of Kim Gook or baby Gook as I call him. When baby Gook contracted meningitis and had to undergo a lumbar puncture, I felt all the pain that Oh Jin Ae (Jun Soo Jin) was feeling as a mother. Whenever baby Gook screamed due to the spinal needle being inserted into his back, I felt my heart drop. The whole scene was difficult for me to watch.

My image of Jin Ae improved drastically since I see her as a woman in love with her husband and baby. She confessed to working three part-time jobs to earn money. While I am more sympathetic to Jin Ae, I still believe her methods were cowardly. She should have came home to explain her situation or at least write a letter to her family if she cannot show up in person rather than having her husband and son show up at the Oh family home unannounced as strangers.

Oh Chang Min (Choi Jin Hyuk) had a lot of tearful scenes this week as he struggles with his feelings for his ex-wife, Oh Jin Hee (Song Ji Hyo). Amazingly, Jin Hee also admitted to Chang Min that she likes Dr. Gook Chun Soo (Lee Pil Mo), stabbing Chang Min further in the heart.

Two songs were highlighted this week to describe Chang Min's feelings. In the scene where Jin Hee was practicing CPR with Dr. Gook, Chang Min's imagination went wild as he watched Dr. Gook assist Jin Hee, ever so closely. The featured song during this scene is "Trap to the Future Part Three (DJ Mix 5)" by DJ Zebo or "High For This (The Weeknd Cover)" by Ellie Goulding. The song really helped me soak in Chang Min's feelings as he watches the scene. I honestly felt the hotness between Jin Hee and Dr. Gook.

In the scene where Chang Min listens to the CD mix that Kim Kwang Soo (Park Doo Shik) gave him, one of the tracks includes a super sad song, "That Person Is Leaving" by Lee So Ra. Chang Min really let his tears flow during this scene and at this point, I believe he is re-thinking what his divorce really means to him.

During the newlywed's housewarming party, all the interns had an interesting discussion about marriage and divorce. Jin Hee interestingly mentioned that a man needs five wives or should I say, a person who takes on all five roles: actress, maid, cook, counselor, and nurse. I wouldn't say a spouse needs to be all those roles, but I will say a spouse needs to be a form of support when support is needed.

Intern Im Young Kyu (Yoon Jong Hoon) also made an interesting comment. He explains that when a lock, represented by a woman, can be opened with many keys, represented by men, then the lock has lost its purpose, but when a key can open many locks, then the key is considered a master key. Jin Hee counters back by asking Young Kyu what would happen if the key doesn't fit the lock, which is why the lock should try many keys first. I don't have any opinions on this matter as both sides made interesting points in this unfair world.

In more surprising moves, Chang Min's mother, Yoon Sung Sook (Park Joon Geum), decides to formally file for a divorce. I am not sure if this is another tactical move for her since she was constantly looking for her husband to come back, but it looks like her mind is made up. Instead of worrying about Sung Sook's happiness, Sung Sook's sisters worry about Sung Sook's social status instead. Hilariously, Sung Sook also makes a Heirs reference when she believes she can have a relationship with young, handsome men such as actors Lee Min Ho or Kim Woo Bin.

More interesting bits and pieces of Dr. Shim Ji Hye (Choi Yeo Jin) and Dr. Gook's history are revealed. They used to ballroom dance together as a hobby although Dr. Gook had stopped dancing a long time ago. Dr. Shim gets a phone call regarding a kid named Ji Min at the hospital. Does Dr. Shim have a kid? I knew there was something more to her.

Young Kyu's sudden text message and video proposal to intern Han Ah Reum (Clara) was a total failure as he accidentally made his messages public. Coincidentally, Ah Reum's cellphone conveniently broke, but she wasn't eager to read those messages anyway. Young Kyu, however, remains hopeful for another chance.

Next week, relationships will be on fire as our main couple struggles with their rekindled feelings. Stay with us as Tanya offers her opinions on this week's episodes on part three of Emergency Couple.
